Sunday Prayer meeting and overview of Acts, chapter 3 - Pastor Gil

Acts Chapter 3

At the temple, Peter and John healed a man lame since birth. Peter testified that the man was healed by faith in the name of Jesus Christ. He preached that Christ would return in “the times of restitution of all things.” He taught that Moses and all the prophets prophesied of the ministry of Christ.

So in this chapter we have a miracle and a sermon: the miracle wrought to make way for the sermon, to confirm the doctrine that was to be preached, and to make way for it into the minds of the people; and then the sermon to explain the miracle, and to sow the ground which by it was broken up.

I. The miracle was the healing of a man that was lame from his birth, and the impression which this made upon the people (v. 9-11).

II. The scope of the sermon which was preached was to bring people to Christ, to repent of their sin in crucifying him), to believe in him now that he was glorified, and to comply with the Father's design in glorifying him (v. 20-26). The former part of the discourse opens the wound, the latter applies the remedy.

This is but an introduction to chapter 3 and next week we will follow up, God willing, with a more in-depth look at it.. Its meaning and how it relates to us today…

I would like to spend our remaining time this morning in prayer.. Please pray with me…

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come;

thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,

the power and the glory,

for ever and ever.

Amen.

Prayer is actually coming into the presence of God…

It is telling God what is in your heart, communing with God as you grasp His will, communicating with God through His words, feeling especially close to God, sensing He is there before you, and believing you have something to say to Him and that he hears and will respond to your plea..
